Inspired by his love of industrial design, specifically car concept design, Francis has created numerous bodies of art using markers to bring his ideas to life.

At 33, while exploring furthering his education at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California, Francis met industrial designer Tom Kellogg.  Kellogg famously known for his work at Raymond Lowery Design, hired Francis to assist with the redesign of the Avanti Sports Coupe, known as the AVX Project.  Unfortunately, Kellogg passed away before the project was completed.

Over the years, Francis has continued to build his portfolio and develop his creativity.  His concept vehicle artwork focuses on simple materials - markers and acid free paper, but gives a rare glimpse inside the beauty of industrial design.  Today, Francis' artwork can be purchased online or at select locations in Nova Scotia.

Simple Tools Create Works of Art

As a young child, Francis found his love of drawing vehicles.  At the age of 5, Francis began drawing his favourite cars and by the age of 10 he was drawing boats, motorcycles and rockets. By the time he was 12, he was perfecting his skills with help from school and industrial arts classes, exploring drawing, draughting and photography. He learned how to build scale model houses and functional rockets.

As a young adult, Francis enrolled at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) to study Industrial Design under the guidance of Hanno Esses and Illustration under Pekka Kauppi. Eventually working for Kauppi in his photography and illustration studio.
